Last week a fully fledged SWAT team was dispatched to deal with a 911 call stating that one teenager has been stabbed and his family were being held hostage at their Florida home. The 911 call was a lie and their was no hostage situation or stabbing. What caused this huge misunderstanding and panic?

The 15 year old teenager Hunter Gelinas was playing online with a hacker who was able to hack his Xbox Live Account and then somehow gain remote access to a disability phone line in order to call 911 with these lies of hostage situations and stabbings.

Neighbor Sam Murphy said, “They all had their guns up like they were ready in case anyone was going to fire on them. When I heard it was a hoax, it kind of made more sense because I figured with this neighborhood, nothing ever really happens here.”

Hunter walked out of his room to a set of SWAT officers with guns trained on him. He said, “They had a whole SWAT team at my door and I came out of my room and they’ve got their guns pointed at me and stuff. They [the police] had said I had been stabbed and there were seven people in the house and they [criminals] were holding hostages.”

Authorities took laptops and gaming systems from the the Gelinas in hopes of tracking down the hacker. That means no gaming for Hunter, but at this point, it’s probably not a priority.

This article comes from Examiner.com so how far will hackers go to disrupt the lives of other gamers? What’s your view when it comes to hackers and people that do this? Taking gaming too far or not?
